Yay! You brought your best friend home—Now what?
Being a new pet parent is very exciting and comes with a lot of responsibility. When you come in for our puppy and kitten exams, we’ll discuss microchipping, deworming, vaccinations, behavior and can answer any questions you may have.
We start vaccinations and deworming as early as 8 weeks and will see you for several weeks after. We love seeing puppies and kittens grow! You can bring them in at no charge weekly to check their weight and speak to our staff about any concerns you may have. This helps to get your baby used to coming to the doctor and lose any apprehensions that they may have. Starting preventative medicine early is key to a long happy and healthy life!
A yearly exam is recommended to take a proactive approach to your pets’ health.
The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends that pets should have a veterinary examination at least annually. For many pets, more frequent visits may be appropriate. Decisions regarding the specific frequency of visits should be made based on the individual needs of your pet, doctors’ recommendations, and owner input. At Genesee Veterinary Hospital we are firm believers in preventive care.
Your pets’ annual nose-to-tail exam will include a dental check for periodontal disease, updating appropriate vaccines, and diagnostic testing based on your pet’s needs. At GVH we partner with you, the parent, to address any concerns that you may have. Early detection and treatment of medical conditions will help to ensure that your pet will live a long, healthy, and happy life.
Dental Health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health and wellbeing.
Pets with periodontal disease are vulnerable to pain, bad breath, and tooth loss. The chronic infections found in the mouth of pets with periodontal disease can spread to the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys, where they can do even more damage. Genesee Veterinary Hospital has a dedicated dental suite that includes state-of-the-art equipment for scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatment, digital dental radiographs, and monitoring.
We conduct pre-anesthetic bloodwork, analgesic (medication for pain), and possibly antibiotics to round out our protocols for complete dental treatment. Just like you, daily brushing of your pet’s teeth at home is recommended to keep bacteria and calculus from returning. Give us a call to schedule your dental check!
Dr. Lederman has years of experience in soft tissue surgeries such as spays, neuters, mass removals, biopsies, and more.

A trained technician is with your pet from beginning to end of surgery and during recovery. We take all precautions to assure that your pet is as comfortable and safe while here with us.
Our hospital is equipped with a full range of diagnostic capabilities to monitor your pet’s health. We have the capability to perform many tests in-house and work closely with veterinary diagnostic labs, board-certified specialists, and surgeons.
We offer:
Vaccines are an important part of your pet’s health guidelines and protect your pet from a variety of diseases.
We evaluate your pet’s overall health and will make vaccine recommendations based on their individual needs.
Most boarding facilities, airlines, and health certificates require appropriate vaccination status. In our area, rabies vaccines are legally required. The vaccines that we use are administered subcutaneously (under the skin), intra-nasal, or orally and are not painful. Both dogs and cats need regular vaccines in order to stay healthy, call us to check on your pet’s vaccination status.
